Amanda Chavez joined the PED Safe and Healthy School Bureau as the Trauma Response Coordinator in March of this year. Amanda was born and raised in Santa Fe, NM and quickly became passionate as a young adult about serving youth of New Mexico. Amanda Chavez has her bachelor's degrees in general education (K-8) and Special Education (K-12), and a master's degree in educational leadership. She has worked in education for 18 years to include roles as teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director of special education. Working with students of all grades prek-12th grade in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Through her experience she has specialized in special education, community schools, student behavior, student supports, and childhood trauma. She stives daily utilizing her experience and knowledge to support youth in need statewide.
